Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan inaugurated the 9th İstanbul Mediation Conference, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, the ministry said.
The conference took place in İstanbul on 23-24 October 2026, according to the ministry.
The Foreign Ministry said Greece was disregarding the rights of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace by appointing so-called muftis in Komotini and Xanthi.
The EU said the 2019 memorandum infringes on the sovereign rights of third states and is null and void, while Ankara said it is based on international law.
The proposal would create a prize for selected sites and extend recognition to sites in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and EU candidate countries in Creative Europe.
European Council President António Costa and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will represent the EU at the Oct. 29-30 talks with Prime Minister Mark Carney.
